The relationship between athletic injuries and psychological variables has been studied from different perspectives, but the results have been contradictory due to methodological problems, such as not utilizing homogenous samples or not employing specific instruments for each sport. The goal of our study was to assess the influence of injuries on anxiety, self-confidence, performance evaluation made by third parties, and concentration. In addition to responding to the CDRD-f, the soccer players reported the number and type of injuries suffered during the last year. In the current study we intended to mend this problem, by studying only football players (N = 253) and using a questionnaire designed specifically for this type of athletes:the questionnaire of Psychological Characteristics Related with the Sport Efficiency among soccer players] which was elaborated from the Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports (PSIS). A discriminant multivariate analysis determined that the football players who were seriously or very seriously injured had greater levels of anxiety, less self-confidence, and were affected more by the evaluation of others than the rest of the players.
