Compatible volume-taper models for Gmelina arborea Roxb. trees grown in the upper Magdalena basin, Colombia. Colomb. for. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.2, pp.174-187. The accurate estimation of tree volume and taper is important for the efficient management of forest resources. The main objective of the study was to generate a compatible volume-taper equations system for Gmelina arborea Roxb. Data used in the study correspond to 97 trees at harvest age, between 13 and 18 years-old, grown in the upper Magdalena basin, Colombia. Four compatible volume-taper systems were evaluated for stem diameter and merchantable volume prediction. The equations systems were fitted simultaneously to minimize the errors during the parameter estimation and evaluated considering measures of fit goodness and prediction. The evaluated models showed bias in the range of -0.07-0.92 cm and -0.0003-0.0009 m3 and mean errors in the range of 1.62-2.76 cm and 0.019-0.021 m3 in stem diameters and merchantable volumes prediction, respectively. Finally, the selected volume-taper system was the one proposed by Fang.
