The several deep changes that happened in the context of worldwide communication, especially related to the science and technology areas, resulted in an extraordinary increase in the production and exchange of information in many knowledge fields. In the history of humanity, several communication technologies were used in the development of societies, the writing process being one of the most important and, afterwards, printing press with its important changes in the documentation and transmission of knowledge. This article describes a panoramic view about knowledge transmission through the times, since the predominance of oral tradition up to the advent of hyperdocuments.
