Abstract

This research postulated as its general objective to identify the areas that integrate the sciences of Information and the relationships they establish between themselves, with the goal of evaluating the possibilities of existence, elucidating the terminological differences, their characteristics and likenesses. It worked on the basis of a qualitative methodology, that related the work of documental analysis, group reflection, and discussion with professionals reunited in forums, as a means to support a deeper consideration by the research team, of the discussions about the terms, objects, relationships and epistemological dilemmas that arose from the consideration of documental sources. First, the paper exposes the epistemological point of departure of the research and its methodology. Then, it considers the results of the analysis of the fields of knowledge, specifically the field of information sciences, and the results of the epistemological encounters. Finally, it presents an interpretative proposal of the subfield of documental information sciences. Between the conclusions exposed, it analyzes how contemporary society has turned information into a ''new faith'', a fact that has favored the configuration of a field of knowledge whose object is information and which gathers agents, scholars and professionals of different sciences related to information. Besides, the field of information shall identify diverse emphasis on information, and through this, to establish more cooperative and differentiated relationships between agents, sciences, purposes and perspectives.
