Social appropriation of knowledge is a theme of recent concern by scientific communities, governments and mass media and it is assumed as a commitment to the community. This article aims to contribute to the theme from the archives. First: as social appropriation places of the socio-cultural knowledge through the retrieval of memory for the construction of identity and citizenship. Second: as information units supporting social appropriation processes of the scientific-technological knowledge, by the implementation of scientific archives in new environments like the virtual and the digital.
