This article analyses different Fiction science Films, focusing on the future scenarios presented for books and libraries. A conception of the 'social imaginary' is adopted in order to analyse the different conceptions about the book's future in the context of an always-growing technological transformation. The Films corpus includes different stages of the mentioned gender in relation to the problems in the links between society and technology. The core of the analysis deals with the disappearing, transformation and permanence of books and the libraries. At the end, it is evident that the society visualizes a future in which books and reading live along with important changes derived from technological innovations. In regard to information professionals, even though there are not remarkable changes in their future functions, there are some worrying signs about the shift from human beings to virtual machines.
