Abstract

BASTOS BRAGA, Gustavo  and  MARQUES FERREIRA, Marco Aurelio. Efficiency Evaluation of Libraries in Minas Gerais Brazil. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2013, vol.36, n.3, pp.173-182. ISSN 0120-0976.

Public library oriented policies are vital for the promotion of culture in modern society. Based on the standpoint of several authors, such as Nielsen, Borlund, Makin and Craven, libraries are considered a source of development and inclusion. Given the importance of this theme, this article aims at evaluating municipal public libraries in the state of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. In order to achieve this goal, we chose a quantitative approach, which was implemented through the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model. The findings pointed out that municipal public libraries from Minas Gerais have low average efficiency, and the adopted public policies may have contributed for this scenario.

Keywords : public policies; public libraries; DEA; Minas Gerais.
