DE FIGUEREDO LIMA, Marcia H. T. The Theoretical and Epistemological Statute of the Right to Information in Contemporary Times. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2015, vol.38, n.2, pp.121-135. ISSN 0120-0976. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.rib.v38n2a04.
This article analyzes the current epistemological status of the right to information, distinguishing it from earlier rights to information expression and access. It considers the inclusion of this right in an array of historical and social analyses: its object of study; the generations of the rights that come out it; its relationship to other rights (partly explained by its development in the 19th century together with the right of expression, but later gaining autonomy from the right to expression during the 20th century); its character as an individual right (and conversely, as a collective or social right); its character in respect to private life; and its relationship to denial, lying, and secrecy. In conclusion, the article presents a chart that summarizes the arguments of the paper and some of the authors discussed.
