Abstract
LONDONO DE LOS RIOS, Iván Daniel; HIGUERA COBOS, Oscar Fabián and MORENO TELLEZ, Carlos Mauricio. Corrosion evaluation of materials used in motorcycles tanks in contact with gasoline and ethanol mixtures. Rev. ion [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.spe, pp.53-57. ISSN 0120-100X.
Due to high fuel prices, the sale and use of motorcycles has been increasing rapidly, making it the fastest and most economic means of transport. Due to Colombia's implementation of fuel blending with 10%v anhydrous ethanol, the cases of corrosion, mainly in motorcycle fuel tanks, have increased causing a problem both for the automakers and for the users of this form of transportation. This increase in corrosion damage of motorcycle fuel tanks is not so drastic in some brands as it is in others due to the type of anticorrosive treatment of each manufacturer. The objective of this study is to evaluate the behavior of the coatings used on motorcycle tanks in contact with fuel blendings of 0, 10, 20 and 100%v anhydrous ethanol by the method of weight loss.
