Abstract
FUENTES, Luis Enrique; RAMIREZ, Silvia Stella; COCONUBO, Angélica Liliana and RAMIREZ, Álvaro. Kinetic study of polyuretane syntesis produced from castor oil using Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Rev. ion [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.15-26. ISSN 0120-100X.
This paper presents a study of the kinetics of polyurethane formation produced from castor oil and isophorone diisocyanate. The reaction rate was monitored by means of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Three reaction models with their respective reaction rates were evaluated by comparison in representing experimental data of reaction rate. The model of order n and the auto catalytic were discharged for inconsistency with the bases of Arrhenius equation and for poor correlation with experimental data. A reaction model is proposed considering two resistances to reaction due to chemical and physical effects (diffusion) present in the polymerization of a poly functional monomer as in the case under study. This model faithfully represents the experimental data of reaction rate. Iso-conversion and nonlinear regression techniques were applied to calculate the kinetic parameters. A comparative analysis of the magnitude of the resistances allowed finding that diffusion is the major resistance during most of the conversion interval.
