ARIZA LEON, Emiliano; CASTRO CELY, Alba Liliana e GOMEZ CANON, David. Feasibility study, achira's starch use as fluid loss control agent in water-based muds drilling. Rev. ion [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.63-71. ISSN 0120-100X.
Canna is a polymer of natural glucose coming from a variety of plants or seeds, composed mainly of a molecular fraction linear (amylose) and branched (amylopectin), the relationship of these components and their physical arrangement within the granular structure gives to starch physico-chemical properties and functional characteristics. The oil and gas industry since the year of 1930 has been using starch as agent additive in all kinds of sludge, showing a high effectiveness in functions during drilling activities such as the removal of solids from the bottom of the hole and in the filtering control toward the formation. In this work, we evaluated the effectiveness of the starch unmodified of achira or also named sago, as agent filtering in drilling mud water base compared to other commercial additives used by the industry, developed with cellulose polyanionic and polysaccharide. The drilling fluid was designed to laboratory conditions and was made testing standard filtering API, rheology and pH. The result of this investigation shows Canna's starch can be used as filtering agent controller in water-base drilling mud with a better performance that other additives usually used to this purpose.
