Abstract

PUELLO MENDEZ, Juliana; AFANASJEVA, Natalia  and  ALVAREZ CIFUENTES, Mario. Statistical relationships to estimate rheological properties of aged and non-aged asphalts. Rev. ion [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.1, pp.73-84. ISSN 0120-100X.

In this work, the statistical relationships for prediction of rheological parameters from chemical parameters were obtained. The asphalts studied were two asphalts produced in Colombia and an asphalt produced in Venezuela. The three asphalts were subjected to accelerated aging by Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT) and Pressure Aging Vessel (PAV) procedures. Master curves for each asphalt were obtained by Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). Rheological parameters were obtained by non-linear regression analysis, to fit the master curves for each asphalt to the rheological model proposed by Christensen-Anderson. Chemical parameters were those of composition (SARA analysis), structural and functional features (FTIR analysis). The obtained relationships show that the Rheological Index can be estimated from Sulfoxide Index and Gaestel Index, with a correlation of 83,81% while the crossover frequency can be estimated from the Aliphatic Index and Sulfoxide Index, with a correlation of 81,88%.

Keywords : asphalts; rheology; dynamic mechanical analysis; master curves; rheological models; multiple linear regression analysis.
