Resumen

PEREZ-MORA, Walter. Evaluation of the geoaccumulation index of some heavy metals in vegetable cultivation soils on the Bogotá riverbank. Rev. ion [online]. 2021, vol.34, n.1, pp.37-45.  Epub 01-Ene-2021. ISSN 0120-100X.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revion.v34n1-2021004.

The population increase and consequently the high demand in the industrialization processes of different complexities, has caused various environmental problems such as the increase in the concentration of heavy metals, which cause various effects on health, in different environmental matrices, particularly water that it is generally the first destination for dumping, water that, particularly in the Colombian case, is used for irrigation in cultivated soils. Accordingly, in this study, cultivated soils from the municipalities of Sibaté, Tenjo, Mosquera, Facatativá, Siberia, in the department of Cundinamarca, and the town of Bosa in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, influenced by the Bogotá river, measuring the concentrations of chromium, cadmium, lead and nickel by atomic absorption spectrophotometry with a graphite furnace. To assess the degree of contamination, the geoaccumulation index was calculated, finding that the soils are classified as moderate and extremely contaminated, particularly in chromium contents in all the sampling areas studied, and lead and cadmium in Sibaté. It is recommended to analyze the contents in vegetables to evaluate the effect on the food chains.

Palabras clave : Atomic absorption spectrophotometry; Geoaccumulation index; Graphite furnace; Heavy metals; Bogotá river.
