Abstract

The issue of public space has been a philosophical problem, both in the way of theorizing about it as in the way of inhabiting it, thus drawing the attention of several disciplines, fields and political institutions throughout history. From an interpretative exercise in the field of sociology and urban anthropology, it is exposed that public space is the result of different contingencies and civic dynamics, which goes beyond any theoretical speculation; but, at the same time, creates a particular way of being in the citizens, provided their understanding and appropriation of the world, in our case, that of the citizens of Medellín.
