Abstract

FERNANDEZ, Clarisa. ARGENTINIAN COMMUNITY THEATRE AND POLITICAL POTENTIAL: THE CASE OF COMMUNITY THEATRE IN RIVADAVIA. Escritos - Fac. Filos. Let. Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.54, pp.165-196. ISSN 0120-1263.  https://doi.org/10.18566/escr.v25n54.a08.

The article analyzes the practices of Rivadavia Community Theatre (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina) in the light of the issue of their political potential. Bearing this in mind, this group is considered paradigmatic within both community theatre studies and Social Sciences, because the collective artistic experience of this theatre group was the trigger for the inception of Cooperativa La Comunitaria, which subsequently became an important political actor in the region. Through the analysis, it is possible to identify the features, weaknesses and potential of their political project, as well as the different circumstances that outline their historicity. The work is based on empirical research of this phenomenon using different qualitative instruments and methods of other disciplines such as Anthropology, Semiotics, and Philosophy of History. It is thought that the research is a significant contribution to Art and Cultural Studies due to its account of collective artistic processes that involve wider frames of action, thus proposing a reflection placed at the hybrid border of poetic production, political project and subjectivity building.

Keywords : Argentinian Community Theatre; Rivadavia; Political Potential; Subjectivity; Historicity.
