Abstract

RUIZ MARTINEZ, Simón. I Give Reasons: "I" as Anaphoric Operator. Escritos - Fac. Filos. Let. Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2019, vol.27, n.58, pp.26-48.  Epub Sep 13, 2019. ISSN 0120-1263.  https://doi.org/10.18566/escr.v27n58.a02.

The article presents a re-description of the first-person with respect to its logical-pragmatic function: what -action- counts as a linguistic practice of enunciation of "I" as anaphoric operation. For this purpose, the idea of anaphora is used as inferential link with substitutional subsentential structures. Additionally, the concepts of language-games and forms-of-life -Lebensformen-, understood as training for the practice of the player, are also considered. Bearing this in mind, the article follows thoroughly the structure developed by Robert Brandom in Making It Explicit. To sum up, the subject of enunciation should articulate the anaphorically assigned conceptual contents to establish a coherent network of deontic commitments.

Keywords : Pragmatism; Personal Identity; Anaphora; Training.
