PEREZ ROBLES, Shirley Tatiana. Censorship and oppositional journalism in Latin America: the cases of Mexico and Colombia, 1880-1910. Escritos - Fac. Filos. Let. Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.64, pp.103-120. Epub 22-Sep-2022. ISSN 0120-1263. https://doi.org/10.18566/escr.v30n64.a09.
This article analyzes the opposition press during the Regeneration in Colombia (1880-1900) and the Porfiriato in Mexico (1876-1911). To do this, two publications were chosen that illustrate the problem that opposition journalism faced during these governments: El Relator (Colombia) and Regeneración (Mexico). It is shown that, despite facing persecution and censorship, the opposition press contributed to the formation of the nation and democracy from alternative discourses.
