Abstract

SARASA GALLEGO, Luis Guillermo. The prologue of John, a principle and a foundation. Cuest. teol. [online]. 2012, vol.39, n.91, pp.99-117. ISSN 0120-131X.

The Prologue of the Gospel of John (Jn 1, 1-18) is the biblical text which works as the building axis in the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini. In fact, each section of the three which constitute the Exhortation carries a verse from the Prologue as an epigraph. Having in mind the famous expression taken from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Prologue text is "principle and foundation" of this pontifical document, that is to say, it is the key needed to read and capture the richness and message of the Exhortation. The magisterial document follows the ecclesiastical dynamics applied to think on divine revelation, a genuine reflection which got its peak in the Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum. The Exhortation taps into this Constitution and the Constitution gives the Exhortation depth and richness.
