Abstract

ADARME RODRIGUEZ, Sergio Antonio. Spirituality in Sport Espiritualidade no esporte. Cuest. teol. [online]. 2015, vol.42, n.98, pp.531-551. ISSN 0120-131X.

Abstract The aim of the article is to consider the spirituality in sport based on a double meaning, viz., as a false religion and as a competition and a game. Therefore, the contradictions of this social phenomenon as well as the different alternatives of being understood are presented. The methodology used to achieve such an aim is that of theological hermeneutics, particularly the perspectives of Olympism and Christian theology. The competitive sense of sport and its meaning as theological game are discussed by recognizing its function not in terms of worship but of cultivating humanity and of social promotion.

Keywords : Sport; Spirituality in Sport; Theological Aesthetics; Theology of Sport.
