Abstract Our main task is to show Kant's own development of the meaning of "way of thinking" or Denkungsart since his pre-critical to his critical philosophy. This article examines the relation of Kant's concept of character as well as the primacy of practical reason and its moral law. It also introduces the notion of Gessinung, which refers to the qualitative dimension of character and the moral consciousness that constitutes the companion notion to "way of thinking", for it to define the essential activity of character.
