Abstract

GARNICA, Naím. Tragedy, romanticism and modernity. Dioniso: between myth and religion. Franciscanum [online]. 2016, vol.58, n.166, pp.87-115. ISSN 0120-1468.

Abstract The essay intends to rebuild relations among romanticism, tragedy and modernity from the lessons of Manfred Frank: The coming God and God in exile. These texts allow us rethink the tragedy in modern Western culture, represented in the figure of Dionysus. Discussions about Frank's lessons will be analyzed from the figure of Dionysus in the proposals of the early German Romanticism and Nietzsche. In addition, the essay puts some pressure on this reading against the positions of contemporary philosophy in relation to tragedy.

Keywords : Contemporary philosophy; aesthetic; tragedy; romanticism; Dionysus.
