Abstract

CLAVIJO POVEDA, Jairo  and  RAMIREZ RODRIGUEZ, Andrés Felipe. Self-Analysis and Aphrodisia: between the Academic Discipline and Transgression. Rev. colomb. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.39, n.1, pp.147-165. ISSN 0120-159X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcs.v39n1.56345.

This article presents a self-analytical methodological development that consciously sought to move away from the autobiographical illusion that manifests itself in many autoethnographies, in which the strength of the experience, the role of the self, one's own memory, nullify any critical possibility. Following Pierre Bourdieu and Bernard Lahire, the article starts with the identification of the academic field and our location in it; from this condition of possibility it reflects on self-analysis and subsequently focuses on the theme of aphrodisia. The study led to the naturalized terrain of the formation of masculinity.

The exercise opted for the objectification of the indifferent sociologist or anthropologist who usually remains anonymous with regards to the social subject in the process of the study of "the other". Here, it deals with converting to "an other", and to observe and examine oneself with the sociological and anthropological tools that we use to study to the other "others". More than a co-authorship, this article is the result of professor - student researcher interaction, in which this academic relationship plays a fundamental role in the regulation of the analysis, in the rigorous management of data and in the writing. The document contains two parts: in the first methodological issues are looked at, and in second, the student-researcher tests the tools on him/herself. In this sense, the first level of the objectification is the academic field, from which it is possible to think about the formation of a masculinity heterodox, through the distancing a priori of intellectualist positions, since they could end up becoming intellectual-centrists, as Bourdieu himself has warned. This framework identifies the formation of particular masculinity as a habitus layered between different social forces, in which a taste is triggered for the transgression of physical, social, and personal spaces as a central source of the aphrodisia.

Keywords : Aphrodisia; self-analysis; academic field; layered habitus; masculinity.
