The freedom of religion enshrined in article 19 of the 1991 Political Constitution, among other reasons, has allowed the presence and action of religious groups and denominations of different orders in the country. One of these many groups are the Israelites of the New Universal Covenant, who with a religious proposal to fulfill the 10 commandments of God's law have managed to consolidate in the country. Organized in the Evangelical Association of the Israelite Mission of the New Universal Covenant Aeminpu, born in Peru in the 60s of the last century, but expanded in Latin America, the Israelites, as they are commonly known, have consolidated a dynamic religious group with more than 30 years of presence in Colombia. Having as its center of expansion the Municipality of Santander de Quilichao in the North of the department of Cauca, the Israelite church has expanded especially in the southwestern region, having among its parishioners indigenous and peasants displaced by the armed conflict who have formed local and municipal churches.

Initially, the Israelites presented themselves as a traditional, closed religious group, making access difficult for scholars. Over the years and their own dynamics, the leaders have been opening up the visit of academics, journalists, and onlookers. An example of this is the news and reports that have been published about the Israelites in newspapers and magazines with wide circulation in Colombia. But what does the written media say about the Israelites? What are the images that have been released about this religious group? What are the themes they describe? What characters and places stand out? These questions are answered in the development of this article, aiming to analyze three reports from the newspapers El Colombiano from the city of Medellín, El Espectador and El Tiempo from the city of Bogotá and two reports from the Cromos y Gente magazine.
