Abstract

ORLANDO, Mejía. The new genetic paradigm and human nature: A perspective from reflexive and secular bio-ethics. Acta Med Colomb [online]. 2005, vol.30, n.2, pp.68-72. ISSN 0120-2448.

Genetics has become the scientific area with the greatest bio-ethical and social implications, due its transformation power upon what has been considered, so far, as human nature. This work's objective is to analyze the relationship between the genetic paradigm, the historical notion of human essence and the contemporary anthropocentric and evolution models of human nature; using conceptual elements that correspond to reflexive, secular and critical bio-ethics to try to better understand the ideological basis of genomic medicine technologies.

Keywords : genetics; bioethics; bioethical models; human nature; paradigma.
