Abstract

VALLEJO, Francisco; GARCIA, Lucy  and  VALLEJO, Franco. Pentoxifiline: a therapeutic approach in the management of toxic epidermal necrolysis. Case Report. Acta Med Colomb [online]. 2007, vol.32, n.1, pp.16-19. ISSN 0120-2448.

21 year old male with bullous lesions in more than 30% of total body surface (TBS), history of sulpha intake 15 days before the symptoms onset. The diagnosis was toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and treatment pentoxiphiline and hydroelectrolitic was started, with satisfactory evolution without complications. This case is especially interesting considering the non general consensus at present regarding this entity’s management and the very favorable results of pentoxiphiline, as a high cost-effective therapeutic option in our country.

Keywords : pentoxiphiline; tumor necrosis factor alpha; toxic epidermal necrolysis; Stevens - Johnson syndrome.
