Abstract

ALDANA CEDENO, JANNETH. Art and Politics: Between Propaganda and Resistance. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2010, vol.37, n.2, pp. 221-243. ISSN 0120-2456.

This article enquires into the relationships between art and politics, especially those focusing on artistic manifestations that have explicitly declared themselves as aesthetics of resistance. It starts with a prior exploration of the possibilities of social science analysis on art to tackle those attempts towards delivering an official policy-either of propaganda or complaint-and then to expose the case through some examples taken from the Latin American artistic movements which are characteristic of sectors that were once perceived as marginal, or seeking to represent them.

Keywords : aesthetics of resistance; artistic expressions; identity; politics; representation.
