Abstract

VEGA TORRES, DANIEL ROBERTO. On History and Sociology: Interdisciplinarity and Narration in the Social Sciences in Colombia. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2012, vol.39, n.1, pp.243-262. ISSN 0120-2456.

The article analyzes the interaction between two narrative modes that made it possible to define the social sciences in Colombia: the essay and the scientific text. First, it discusses the essay, not as an emerging disciplinary knowledge, but as the literary basis of social science in the country during the first half of the 20th century. The article then goes on to highlight the contrast between and the coexistence of disciplinary training and essay writing, using the case of the Escuela Normal Superior as reference and discussing the inclusion of North American rural sociology in Colombia. The text concludes that interdisciplinarity was a discursive practice that developed together with the professionalization of knowledge.

Keywords : social sciences; interdisciplinarity; history; sociology; Colombia.
