This study, carried out from the perspective of the social history of law, analyzes one of the confrontations generated as a result of the implementation of the criminal justice system in New Granada. Specifically, it analyzes the resistance movements that arose during the 1830s as a result of the implementation of codified criminal laws aimed at curbing political crimes. The theoretical perspective points to the fact that the State, represented by the administrations of that decade, assumes criminal law as a tool for political control, a maneuver that generates tensions manifested in divergent legal opinions. The study of sources such as laws, decrees, criminal records, press articles, libels, newspaper inserts, and pamphlets reveals a new battlefield for criminal justice, an extralegal scenario in which conflicts are dissolved in the context of the political crises caused by sedition and war.
