CASTELLON VALDEZ, Luz Mary. Discourses, Strategies, and Political Subjects: Analysis of the Testimonies Presented at the Trials of Military Officers Accused of Rebellion in Venezuela and Mexico, 1810-1815. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2013, vol.40, n.1, pp.49-73. ISSN 0120-2456.
The article analyzes some of the testimonies presented during the so-called "causas de infidencia", or trials of those who had rebelled against Spanish authorities in the context of the wars of independence in Spanish America. On the basis of a comparative analysis, the paper explores the similarities and differences that can be observed in the way these subjects perceived the political conflict in Mexico and Venezuela between 1810 and 1815. It also shows how political subjects were constructed, and how the language and rhetoric used by the actors in the conflict gradually shaped an American identity.
