LOPEZ AMAYA, JEIMAN DAVID. Protestant Missions in Colombia (1930-1946). Geography and Politics of the Evangelical-Pentecostal Expansion. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.2, pp.65-103. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v41n2.48782.

The current diversity of the religious field in Latina America and its effects on democratic political culture justify the historical study of Protestantism in a region where the Catholic Church is hegemonic and its ties to the various political elites are clear. The article analyzes the growth of Protestantism (Evangelical and Pentecostal) during the period of the Liberal Republic (1930-1946) in Colombia, on the basis of the records of Colombian visas granted to Protestant missionaries and of some of their personal writings. Two lines of explanations serve as a guide: on the one hand, the geography of Protestant expansion, and on the other the political perception of the missionaries involved in that expansion.
