LORENZ, FEDERICO. West Falkland. An Approach to the War Experience on the Basis of Officer's Testimonials. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.2, pp.225-257. ISSN 0120-2456. https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v41n2.48787.
In 1982, the Argentinean forces were defeated by Great Britain in the war over the Falkland Islands, a war that they fought in extremely unfavorable conditions that were compounded by the archipelago's hostile environment. Argentina's failure in this war, which was decided on and launched by the military dictatorship that had ruled the country since 1976, gave rise to a process that resulted in the restoration of democracy. The article analyzes the characteristics of the Falklands War on the basis of a documentary collection made up of the sworn statements of Argentinean officers regarding their actions in the war, shortly after the defeat. Specifically, the paper examines the testimonials of the officers who served in West Falkland, the second largest island of the archipelago.
