In national historiography, the issue of the consolidation of Indian villages and the process of establishing reservations in regions other than the New Kingdom of Granada has received little research attention. Through an analysis of archival information, this study proposes to contribute to the regional knowledge of these dynamics. The specific case of indigenous villages of the province of Páez that were governed by Popayán is examined. This case clearly illustrates that although shared legislation exists, the aforementioned processes could have been discontinuous, heterogeneous, and guided by the indigenous contexts in which they were implemented. These dynamics were the basis of the sociopolitical processes of the reconstruction of the indigenous villages of the province of Páez, which ultimately resulted in the configuration of the current Nasa communities.
