Abstract

BOSEMBERG, LUIS EDUARDO. The German Legation in Bogotá in the 1930's. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2015, vol.42, n.2, pp.205-236. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v42n2.53335.

The article is part of the debate revolving around the Nazi danger in Colombia. It postulates that in the country there was no possibility of a victory by Nazi Germany. It takes the case of the German Legation in Bogota in the 1930's. It begins by describing the Legation's activities -which can be considered successful actions -. Then, based on documents of the organization, it shows that the same diplomats were convinced that the conditions for a great Germanic advance in Colombia did not exist because of the triumphant advance of the United States and the fact that the country was liberal and antifascist.

Keywords : Colombia; Germany; international relations; German legation; diplomacy; German-American rivalry.
