Abstract
CAMACHO ARANGO, CARLOS. The Return of French Cannons to Perú (1930-1933): Intermediaries and Contingencies. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2015, vol.42, n.2, pp.267-298. ISSN 0120-2456. https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v42n2.53337.
The export of French arms (Schneider cannons) to Peru was interrupted between 1913 and 1933 due to debt. This article shows so why it was resumed and emphasizes the performance of military intermediaries of both countries, as well as the importance of specific historical contingencies. The article's main source is the official correspondence of the military attaché of France in Lima between 1930 and 1933; some of his letters suggest that corruption was crucial in solving the problem, but no conclusive evidence on the matter has been found.
Keywords : corruption; diplomacy; armed forces; international relations; arms sales.
