Abstract

DIAZ JARAMILLO, JOSÉ ABELARDO. The Priest Julio Sabogal and Daily Life in Fusagasugá, 1908-1934. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2015, vol.42, n.2, pp.353-384. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v42n2.53340.

The article studies the behavior of the priest Julio Sabogal, of the Parish of Fusagasugá, between 1908 and 1934, identifying how he tried to establish and to conserve religious hegemony in the locality; although the priest was a religious authority, he had to use strategies of control, mediation and negotiation to be able to exert his missionary work, since the political, economic and cultural conditions were not always favorable. This exercise allows us to approach a figure who has not been treated recurrently by Colombian historiography, in spite of his importance.

Keywords : Fusagasugá; priest; Julio Sabogal; religious hegemony; local religion.
