Abstract

MOJICA VILLAMIL, ALEJANDRO. The Moralization of the Republic in Miguel Antonio Caro. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2016, vol.43, n.2, pp.307-333. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v43n2.59085.

The present article approaches Miguel Antonio Caro's understandings of the concept of moral. This was a central axis within his language and constituted a fundamental part of the ideological guidelines which led to administrative and political transformation of the State in the last quarter of the XIX century in Colombia. Given this premise, the purpose of the article is to provide an analysis of the proposal for the moralization of the society made by Caro, which not only covered politics, religion and education, but also promoted a framework for conduct for the society. The results of this proposal, expressed in the political Constitution of 1886, yield an understanding, in perspective, of the historic period known as the Regeneration.

Keywords : (Author) Miguel Antonio Caro; Regeneration; (Thesaurus) politics; moral concept; religion; education.
