Abstract

BUITRAGO SUAREZ, DIEGO FERNANDO. Mestizo Nation: the Case of the Revista de Folklore in Colombia, 1947-2011. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2017, vol.44, n.1, pp.279-302. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v44n1.61228.

Studies on Colombian folklore have been a propitious space for debates on regional and national identity, the authenticity of cultural products and national projects linked to whitening, "mestization" or multiculturalism. The author proposes an inquiry into this dynamic with regards to the Revista deFolklore (1947-2011), establishing the conditions in which folklore is included in a system of cultural production. This includes folklore's relationship with different models of national cultural politics which allowed it to be recognized as an object for study, taking into account tensions between race, social class and culture, which led to a perspective of heritage and non-conflict in national identity as well as projections for its study in the 21st century.

Keywords : mestization; Revista de Folklore; Colombia; race; multiculturalism; national identity.
