Abstract

PENA VALENZUELA, DAVID FELIPE. The Struggle for Power and Political Representation of Peasants: Former Guerrillas from Southern Tolima, 1957-1960. Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2017, vol.44, n.2, pp.171-197. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v44n2.64019.

As the point of convergence of the new regime's peace and war policies that allowed liberal and communist guerrillas to participate in legal political life, the south of Tolima (Colombia) was a critical scenario during the first years of the National Front (Frente Nacional). The objective of this article is to trace the process of reinsertion of former liberal guerrillas into civilian politics, in order to question the role assigned to them thus far by Colombian historiography: that of agents at the service of the ruling class. On the contrary, they represented the interests of a region populated predominantly by peasants who had recently settled there

Keywords : (Author) former guerrillas; local politics; National Front (Frente Nacional); (Thesaurus) communism; guerrillas; liberalism.
