Abstract

AHUMADA, Diego A  and  GUERRERO, Jairo A.. OPTIMIZATION OF THE PROGRAMMED TEMPERATURE VAPORISER IN ANALYSIS OF PESTICIDE RESIDUES BY THE SIMPLEX METHOD. Rev.Colomb.Quim. [online]. 2010, vol.39, n.2, pp.221-236. ISSN 0120-2804.

This study shows the results of the simplex method implementation for optimization of a programmed temperature vaporizer in two modes: cold splitless (injection 4 µL) and solvent vent (20 µL injection). Five variables in 12 experiments were optimized in the first mode of operation and seven variables were optimized in 19 experiments in the solvent vent mode. To evaluate the optimization process, the injection of 1 µL in hot pulsed splitless mode was used as reference. The chromatographic responses obtained in cold splitless mode (4 µL) were up to 5 times higher than in hot splitless method. Finally, in the solvent vent mode, compounds with higher boiling points showed similar results to those obtained with cold splitless mode.

Keywords : pesticides; gas chromatography; programmed temperature vaporizer; optimization.
