Abstract

For the first time we synthesized and characterized (IR, UV, NMR 1H, 31P, 19F), a new supramolecular square [3] by the self-assembly of complex [Pd(CF3SO3)2(dppe)] [1] and the organic ligand 4,4'-Bipyridine [2]. There was evidence that [3] was obtained together with another supramolecular species [4], assigned to a triangular macrocycle. Structures [3] and [4] were elucidated based on chemical shifts, the proportionality between their integrals and the coupling patterns of the 1H NMR and the COSY spectra. Based on signal intensities corresponding to the two supramolecular species we determined the composition of the mixture to be 70 % of [3] and 30 % of [4].
