Abstract

PIZARRO SAN FRANCISCO, Sebastián Guillermo; ASTUDILLO JULIO, Priscila Andrea  and  DELGADILLO ACEVEDO, Alvaro. Adsorption of an iron complex on nanocrystals of titanium dioxide using a pyridine residue. Rev.Colomb.Quim. [online]. 2019, vol.48, n.1, pp.52-58. ISSN 0120-2804.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rev.colomb.quim.v48n1.73295.

Because the phenomena of adsorption of tinctures on metal oxides are of great importance in the search for solar energy conversion systems, this paper presents the spectroscopic and electrochemical behavior of the complex [Fe(pytpy2)](PF6)2 (where pytpy is 4'-(4-pyridyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) in a fluid solution and anchored on a thin film of nanocrystals of titanium dioxide. The adduct formation constant was estimated using the Langmuir isothermal model, with a value of 1.03x105 M-1 for the complex. The anchoring of the complex on the surface of the semiconductor metal oxide is due to the interaction of the pyridine residue with the Lewis acid sites presented on the TiO2 surface. Results indicated that the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of the complex are not modified by the adsorption.

Keywords : iron terpyridine; Langmuir isotherm; adduct formation constant.
