Abstract

RINCON CASTILLO, Álvaro. Effect of potassium on production and forage quality of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf in the Colombia piedmont east plain region. Acta Agron. [online]. 2011, vol.60, n.3, pp.285-291. ISSN 0120-2812.

This experiment was conducted at the Research Center La Libertad CORPOICA, located in Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia, in an Oxisol of middle terrace with a content of 0.08 cmol.kg-1 potassium (K). The statical design consisted of a randomized complete block with an arrangement of split plot with four replications, four K levels (30, 60, 90 and 120 kg%ha) were used. As main plot was assessed basic fertilization (fertilized and unfertilized basic). The basic fertilization (in kg%ha) consisted of 100 of P2O5, 60 N, 30 S, 3 Zn, 0.1 Cu and 0.5 for B. There were no significant differences in forage production due to the levels of K applied, then it can be argued that B. decumbens respond well to 30 kg.ha-1 of K, however, basic fertilization applied together with K, contributed to improving the production of forage B. decumbens to 12 months after application. K content in soil, was higher than 0.10 cmol%kg of soil, a level considered appropriate for the development of grasses such as B. decumbens.

Keywords : Brachiaria decumbens; grass fertilization; grass minerals.
