Resumen

ESPINOSA-ALZATE, Juan Antonio  y  RIOS-OSORIO, Leonardo Alberto. Agroecological systems characterization for the cacao crop establishment (Theobroma cacao L.), in afro-descendant communities of the Colombian Pacific (Tumaco - Nariño, Colombia). Acta Agron. [online]. 2016, vol.65, n.3, pp.211-217. ISSN 0120-2812.  https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v65n3.50714.

The aim of this research was the agroecological characterization of the cocoa crop production systems in the municipality of Tumaco - Nariño, Colombian Pacific. Both traditional and conventional production systems. The methodology designed was based on the analysis of context where all dimensions of sustainability provided a holistic view of reality and energy efficiency was evaluated. As a result of the study it was identified that cocoa production systems dealt with two contrasting technological systems: 1) traditional or local complex systems, within the concept of integration of land management, and 2) systems of modern commercial exploitation (high density, use of chemical controls, input patterns and plant material of imported clones). Some community members report that the trend to increase densities of cocoa have a difference of some people view to maintain low densities (400 trees per hectare). The wide range of environmental conditions of the territory and the high social and ecosystem complexity set unique challenges that identify the sustainability of production systems from energy efficiency and market integration.

Palabras clave : Biodiversity; complex systems; energy efficiency; Colombian Pacific.
