Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of most consumed foods in the world, being of great economic importance for Colombians. Rice crops is commonly affected by pests, which requires the use of agrochemicals that also contaminate the environment and harm human health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of aqueous extracts from Azadiracta indica leaves, a plant known for its repellent function, on insect populations in an experimental rice crop in vegetative phase. The treatments of the rice plots were done with three aqueous dissolutions prepared from A. indica leaves (T1 = 5 %, T2 = 10 %, T3 = 20 %); also, a negative control (T4 = 0 %) was used. Sampling of the insect population was carried out weekly in order to check the efficacy of the extracts. A total of 7418 individuals belonging to 12 orders were processed. Diptera (2720) was the most representative order, followed by Hemiptera (1854), and Coleoptera (1045). No significant pests were found. Delphacidae was the most abundant family (92 individuals were captured). An efficacy of 74% was observed in the third treatment (T3). It was concluded that the use of A. indica had a controlling effect on the insect population of the crop.
