OVIEDO-ANGARITA, Jhon Fredy; DUARTE, Isaac Dodino; DIAZ-BASTO, Belkis Xiomara e CAPERA-CASTRO, José Danilo. Effect of foliar application of bovine manure biol on hybrid maize. Acta Agron. [online]. 2023, vol.72, n.4, pp.353-360. Epub 29-Abr-2025. ISSN 0120-2812. https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v72n4.112623.
The use of renewable natural resources and the optimization of biological processes allows for progress towards more sustainable and resilient practices in transitional crops such as maize. This study evaluated the effect of foliar application of bovine manure biol on a hybrid maize crop, focusing on the physiological aspects of the plants. Phytotoxicity, pH, and electrical conductivity tests were carried out, where a 3 × 2 factorial design was applied. Three levels of the factor “fertilizer type” (urea, biol, none) and two levels of the factor “mycorrhiza content” (40 g and 0 g) were used, with 4 replicates per treatment. The data were analysed using a two-factor ANOVA to examine potential statistically significant differences between the various variables. Subsequently, the means comparison analysis was performed using Tukey’s test, with a significance level of 0.05 using the RStudio software, version 2024.04.0 735. No significant differences were found between the different treatments in terms of stem diameter, plant weight, and cob weight. However, differences were observed in plant height, where the biol treatment reached an average of 2.01 m, while the urea treatment resulted in a lower height, with an average of 1.74 m. This indicates that the application of biol stimulates the efficient growth of maize plants. In addition, the potential of bovine manure as an organic fertilizer is highlighted.
