SIU-PALMA, Sailyng Dayana e MORAN-CENTENO, Juan Carlos. Coffee berry borer control strategy in Jalapa, Nicaragua. Acta Agron. [online]. 2023, vol.72, n.4, pp.385-391. Epub 02-Maio-2025. ISSN 0120-2812. https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v72n4.115551.
Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) is Nicaragua’s main export item, with 80 % of the production areas located in the northern region of the country. The purpose of this research was to evaluate control options for Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) in the municipality of Jalapa in the period from October 2023 to January 2024, using a randomized complete block design with six treatments. Experimental plots of 180 m2 were defined, with 105 coffee plants per plot (n = 2,520 plants). Analysis of variance, Tukey’s separation (p < 0.05), and economic analysis were conducted. It was determined that the treatments exhibited similar effectiveness in controlling the pest. The incidence of Beauveria bassiana was 5 x 109 to 2.5 x 1011 conidia per gram in treatment T1, and 1 x 109 spores per gram in treatment T2, with greater colonization of the insect. The highest yield was observed in treatment T3 (aqueous solution at 87 % concentration), while treatment T1 resulted in the greatest net benefit.
