ALVAREZ-PINEDO, Annarellis et al. Evaluation of planting distance on the productivity of garlic (Allium sativum L.) clone “Creole Víctor”. Acta Agron. [online]. 2023, vol.72, n.4, pp.401-407. Epub 05-Maio-2025. ISSN 0120-2812. https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v72n4.108318.
The yields of garlic (Allium sativum L.) cultivation in Cuba, one of the most commonly used vegetables in island cuisine, are low. It is well known that the planting season and distance are decisive factors in determining yields. However, no recent studies have been found in the literature related to garlic productivity in Cuba considering these factors. For that reason, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of different planting distances on the productivity of garlic clone “Criollo Víctor”, grown in the Mayabeque province. For this purpose, an experiment was conducted where the bulblets were planted in flowerbeds, at a distance between plants of 5, 7 and 10 cm, in the month of October, during the 2019 - 2020 campaign. At different stages of growth (70, 90 and 110 days after planting), the following indicators were evaluated: percentage of sprouting and survival of the plants, height of the plants, and number of leaves. Once harvested (after 130 days) and after curing (30 days after harvest), the following indicators were evaluated: equatorial and polar diameter of the bulb, mass of the bulb and bulblets, number of bulblets, and yield (t ha-1). The results of the experiment indicated that the distance of 5 cm was the most promising with a yield of 2.5 t ha-1. The results obtained in this work can contribute to the adoption of new garlic production technologies with the consequent increase in its yield and productivity.
