GUTIERREZ, JUAN DIEGO. WAR AND PEACE IMAGINARIES AND MEMES IN THE 20l6 PLEBISCITES YES AND NO CAMPAIGNS IN COLOMBIA. Maguare [online]. 2023, vol.37, n.1, pp.17-60. Epub 09-Mar-2023. ISSN 0120-3045. https://doi.org/10.15446/mag.v37n1.107563.
This article is a historical narrative that explains the way in which memes influenced political communication to create imaginaries of war and peace during the 2016 plebiscite in Colombia. I analyze the production of new political communities on social media platforms, as well as the role played by memes. These linguistic acts are produced through the use and creation of objects with mimetic properties through fragmentary and referential language. To understand how Colombian political memes worked, I explore the referential phenomena involved in the Yes and No campaigns. At the same time, I challenge the limits of historiography by proposing an ethnographic history of the present.
