Abstract

GOMEZ OQUENDO, Francisco Javier; ARANGO CASTRO, Pedro; RUIZ, Jorge Andrés  and  FERNANDEZ, Juan Manuel. Desarrollo de una aplicación informática para la administración de anestesia intravenosa. Rev. colomb. anestesiol. [online]. 2009, vol.37, n.1, pp.29-39. ISSN 0120-3347.

Objective: To develop a software for the administration of intravenous anesthesia in the mode of effective site concentration. Methods: In order to achieve this, different subsystems are implemented: First, multi-compartment drug distribution model in the human body, an algorithm to determine the curve of speeds at which the anesthetic Propofol must be infused to obtain the effect of general anesthesia. Second, a communication protocol for sending the vector of speeds to a conventional infusion pump and finally, the simulation of a re-feeding loop to control all the system starting with the bi-spectral index which is used as an indicator of the depth of the anesthesia. Results: A versatile instrument is created, with similar services to those of the commercial equipments and with an interactive interface; same which makes the operation easier for the anesthesiologist from a conventional computer. Conclusions: A software tool has been implemented and equipped with a multi-compartmental pharmacological model of great academic and clinical interest, which, as proved in a quantitative way, gives identical results as those offered by the commercial equipments. This brings important additional advantages as those of an interactive user interface as well as the possibility to administer total intravenous anesthesia.

Keywords : Propofol; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamics; total intravenous anesthesia.
