Abstract

RAMIREZ CRUZ, Héctor. Genre and Number Discordance in the Contact Between Languages. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.2, pp.165-195. ISSN 0120-338X.

This article analyzes expressions with discordant grammatical structures. The corpus involves the transcription of sixty hours of recordings of personal narrations, mythological texts and other stories in Spanish by about two hundred forty-three bilingual informants from Colombian borderlands. Analysis of the expressions is based on the type of grammatical digression (gender, number or person and number) and the type of grammatical paradigm they modify (nominal, verbal or nominal-verbal). The relevance of their classification as linguistic interference is analyzed from two theoretical perspectives: on one hand, Language Contact Studies, in association with Sociolinguistics and Dialectology, and, on the other, Psychology of Learning, Psycholinguistics and Teaching of Foreign Languages. Data are contrasted with results from language in contact between Spanish and non-Amerindian languages, highlighting the problems of classifying discordant grammatical structures as linguistic interference.

Keywords : language contact; linguistic interference; discordant grammatical structures; Spanish.
